This is the optional programmer for the MKS-50 module. It makes it really easy to tweak parameters live, or make entirely new sounds.
Without the PG-300, editing patches would be quite boring - a matter of scrolling up and down menus all the time. Now it's so easy that I don't even think about it much. A pity the sliders aren't motorized though... :)
